OK, this is my second Saturday which I did not get to go to Pasar Road. But I did get to go to somewhere better. Its Kristine's and Kaelynn's School Carnival. The carnival as held in aid of Tasputra Perkim. However, we were required to be there by 0900 as Kristine was chosen to be one of the students to greet the VIPs in her traditional costume. As Wife has school activities, my Parents and I took them to the carnival instead.
And so, on a bright Saturday morning.....
A small girl was the 'star' of the day.
Unfortunately, they won't let me take this home
I let Kristine settle down at her school's stall. She is happy to be there and sometimes, sheis working hard to make friends but alwaysgetting lukewarm response from her mates
This the school's gym/hall/thingy where otherstalls are based. The red cloth covers the bookswhich were for sale, but cash only.
Oh-oh. dangerous area!
Stall selling modeling clay/dough, not those
Play-doh, though.
Whoever the artist was, they're very talented
And imaginative too. Take a look atM. Bean here. OK, OK, looked morelike a saggy old man.
Relaxology team preparing themselves for the day.
Outside, there was this stall which caught my attention.OK, it was selling toys. But to tell you the truth, thosetoys are not your everyday normal ones. Those are theones you see and/or secretly covert for when you're inschool. If you read Beano/Topper/etc, you'll know thesetoys by heart.
Except this one. This is originalto me. You just move the balland watch the chicken move.
This stink bomb. In my days, those werestored in tiny glass bottles/vials. You justthrow it and when it breaks, woooooo.....
Whoopee cushions
I don't know the name of this but you squeezethe pump in one end and the horse kicks itshind legs to move forward. I think there was afrog version too. But I can't remember.
Usually girls play these and use them to makesmall balloons. I use them to block the entranceof insect nests.
Pop-pops. Need I say more?
Nun-chaks. Nun-chaks? they sell Nun-chaksin school now? Wow.
I wanted to have a closer look at this stall selling
watercolours but later on, I forgot. They were
beautiful. And there were some black & white
photos too.
Scenes at the food stalls.
I wanted to buy the RM20.00 biscuitsbut promised myself not to go beyondthe two RM25.00 vouchers.
Ah, the lekor, my favourite. Promisedmyself not to miss this but after theevents unfolded, I forgot about it.
A lot of weird drinks on sale here includingbubble tea or something.
Later on, this stall was the busiest because of thepopiah and some dumplings
Yeah, I needed to kill some time wat........
Anyway, after a frantic search for Kristine, Ifound her at the gates. All the children were getting ready for the VIP's arrival.
Aww........ they're all so cute.
That is, before they started the flag fight.
Anyway, the teacher lined them up and all of a sudden, parents and photogs were sanpping away like crazy.
Finally, it was time for them to greet the VIP
The teacher also asked for Kaelynn and so I brought her over as well.
This time, they're right on time and so, the Ceremony
is very short because the hot Sun is already up and it
would be unbearable for everyone.
I had to wipe the sweat off their foreheads twice. Grandmaand Grandad gave them some water to drink before.....
Going back to the stalls for some food. By coincidence, our table were next to the VIPs. But not many peopleknow/bothered about that. Maybe its because the
young DJ's did not announce their arrival.
Kaelynn eating her food but did not touch herfavourite corn. After tasting, I know why. Itsbecause they did not put more butter/salt butthis version is healthier.
After testing the three currypufts in front ofher, she gave it to me instead. Its nice andvery spicy. But again, temperature-wise, itstoo hot since I bought them right off the wok.
Then its off to the games to finish off whatevervouchers we had left. This is Kristine's stall butthey're too young to play this game. And I'm tooold to play it either. I think I only played it whenI was about eight or so.....
RM2 for two throws since the vouchers were in
denominations of RM5.00 and RM2.00. Yeah,
she missed them completely. One went to the
rack and the other bounced off the floor first.
But this is the game where the girls were excited. Its a very simple game where you net the ducks
in the water while the floating balls are trying
to hamper your efforts. And you have to get
the right duck too. Quack! Quack!
At first try, Kristine got one token then, we went
to other stalls to see if they can break the last
2 RM5.00 voucher for Kaelynn to play.........
With no such luck, I let them have a go at coin tossing
to finish the Rm5.00 voucher. Actually, the coin is a
two inch flat donut. OK, so they got a token each...
Then its back to the duck game. Earlier on,
while were were looking, some nut thinks
there is a line at the side of the stall and
told me off. So, when they asked who's next,
I just say, "This nutjob here thinks there's
a line. So he's first." When I left, he was pissed
and had to keep quiet because he was very
embarassed when he realised there is no such
line at the side of the stalls. Some parents.....
And you know what? Kaelynn got three tokensfrom there. Which makes: Kristine-2, Kaelynn-4
But I split the tokens without telling them asthey're very competitive nowadays. With 3tokens each, I let them make the decision onwhat items to get. I was surprised becauseafter Kaelynn got hers, Kristine chose thisthick foam sticker which costs three tokens
Surprised because she usually chose quantity overquality. So, not only did they both chose stickersbut here, Kaelynn chose three normal shiny onesfor only a token each. Weird. Still, Kristine was not happy because we refused to get her a notebook. I had to tell her that she cannot just get what she wants and when she wants it. But I did get them some books for them to practise their maths and writing on. Costs me about RM39.00 which I gladly paid. But hours after we came home, they disappeared......
About half past five, there was an accident. So, naturally, we all went to the window to take a look. What we saw was a silver Toyota Altis, wrecked in the middle of the road. Talking to a few bystanders, the story was that the Altis came down from the ramp at speed and was unable to avoid a lorry. They managed to rescue a child and brought him to the side. The driver survived too, thanks to the air-bag.My colleague wanted the 4-digit number but I told him, it would be very bad if you took advantage from someone who died. Everyone's mood lifted we all realised no one died. And the 'thing' on the road was not a body.
And so, the Vultures were there, to claimtheir prize. The Fire Department werethere too but left after a few minutes. Thiswas either everything is alright or, this issomething they cannot do anymore. Theabsence of an ambulance led everyone tothink it was the latter.
And as usual, this caused a long jam. If youlook at the far left, that was the ramp whereeveryone speeds. Where I am standing, inless than 100 meters, was the accident.
Later on, when I went near the car, the engine wasmissing. One of the Malay guy said, 'Thank God itwas a Toyota. If it was a Proton.......", and anotheradded, "Yeah, worse if it was a Kancil...". Which inreality, sums up how the Public perceives Toyota.
Later on, I saw this lorry being loaded too.Is this the lorry which got hit by the Altis? Some said it spun a few times.......
A kind manager in the office gave us someVitamin C's to counter the H1N1. Its beena long time since I had these tablets.
Sometimes when you are stuck at a traffic jam in the Highway, there is a sudden point where you pass it and then all of a sudden, everything is back to normal. I had this theory back then, and this is the best graphical illustration to show what my theory was all about. If only I had made it known it was my idea......... heh.
Finally, after weeks of planning, I got to see Avatar. Never mind if its from Uncle Ho. I was amazed, shocked, in awe with the movie. It was brilliant, almost perfect. That is, until Sigourner Weaver lit up a ciggie. And it all went downhill from there. Try as I might, to enjoy it and fully immerse myself, I just cannot erase that image out of my mind. Its as if she just stepped out of 'Gorillas' and took a ciggie before going throwing herself into the flaming pit. A Goddamn ciggie.WTF
Everything is wrong with this picture.
I had the chance to visit an old friend of mine today. We met in the old BNI days, which was more than seven years ago. Actually, it was the first time I have seen him ever since Lydia has passed on years ago.He is still as alert as ever and, sharp as a tack. But throughout the years, loneliness crept in. His children Stephen and Ester have gone on with their lives and so, its hard to come home to an empty house. So, he surprised everyone with a second wife.Yeah, I nearly spewed my cup of coffee too. And my eyes popped out when she was a Filipino. Yeah, we all about the stereotypes and I myself witness one which screwed a company but since this is his life, and he has everything planned out, who am I to tell him otherwise. But he has it all sorted out, he says, through his series of tests, she got through them. So, I just took it all in silently. For you see, its one thing to give advise and another thing to advise with opinions. I did what I always did when I listen, I shut up. I mean, he has already made up his mind and knows where things are heading. Although I have my reservations, I cannot, as a friend, tell him otherwise because of what I felt and/or think. He is already lonely and there is no one else to be with him. And it would not be fair for everyone to come back to just to be there for him. But I know he will be fine. And so, I wished him all the best, advised him on how to troubleshoot an ADSL line and indirectly told him to call me if there is anything he needs help with.
And these are the for the girls, only thingis, I have not given them yet, maybe thisweekend, I suppose, since when the rightmoment presented itself, they're full.
For some unknown reasons, I have to take an X-Ray today. Earlier on, they took my piss and maybe because I did not give them a full sample, they wanted to take revenge on me. Yep, they want me, to stand in front of a plate and shoot me full of accelerated particles.
So, when I went into the room, there was this cute Malay girl, asking me,"Encik.. you boleh faham Bahasa?""Oh, tidak. Saya tak tahu cakap Bahasa.""Ok, OK. You.. can.. cak.. speak English?""Oh no. I cannot. Saya tak tahu cakap English."Yeah, this stunned her for quite some time before she started to talk in Bahasa and told me to take off my clothes and stand in front of the plate. After that, only did she realise I can speak and understand Bahasa. Wow. I think I can successfully confuse people now.
What the.... my lungs are black! Help!I swear to you, I don't smoke! Help!
