School Holiday starts.

Yep, today is the start of the (1 week) term School Holidays for Malaysian Schools. Why am I not so happy?

Because the stupid buses and parents did not gather at the appointed time at 7:30. This means no horns, no engine sounds, no schoolchildren screaming and worst of all, no moronic morning announcements. (The announcements are fun because it really distracts you especially when you have a very difficult time in the toilet)

In other words, I am late for work again. Haih.

The day after. As in after the Petronas F1 demonstration, that is.
This caused a lot of traffic incidents as there were no proper lanes nor lines for motorists. So, who's the vandal?

Further on, the road looks quite nice.
Unfortunately, everyone also loves to drive all over them and all over the road as well

A very interesting phone call........

This car has a weird hole in the bonnet. A modified engine perhaps?

Nah. It served no function now.

Interesting videos

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! This is so funny! I got this link from AutoWorld Forum and explored nearly the whole site. The first one was my favourite for that evening.

Saturday in Sungei Wang

Yes! My Paychecks got through this morning! So, after paying off the bills, debts and misc. costs, I have RM700, which will go towards car repair, petrol, toll and this leaves me RM100 for myself. Guess what I got with that?

Yes, a Master Grade Mobile Pod Ball.

Its very beautiful and I waited 2 months for it. Would I assemble it today?
Nah. I'll shove it in the shelf until I am really free (like when I retire). Ha ha ha ha
You can go to this site for more pictures

After rushing back home under all the crazy heat, I am too lazy to do anything else and YS Khong's workshop was understaffed today which means I cannot repair my car, because

1) Water pump, I have to top up water every 2 days
2) Gear Oil, The gears are getting a bit cranky. Ha ha
3) Engine Oil, yes, its past 10KM too
4) Oil and Fuel filter

And next month, I really have to have my car's timing belt changed too, budget or no budget.

This is my lunch: Porridge-in-a-Cup and a Yam Cake.
Once I finish the Yam cake, I'll drink the porridge like water. Ha ha ha ha

Weird SMS

This morning, while I was at a customer's premise, I got this SMS from another Celcom number:

ads369
Ratna a/l ********
1XRM300 OPS SIKAP
3XRM300 Waran
1XRM300+N/C
1XMabuk(Cannot Settle)

From this SMS, its seems this poor Ratna guy can't get himself off the hook for "Mabuk" (which is Drunk in Malay) which, I presume, he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Then again, he as to pay RM1,500.00 in summonses. Ha ha

Bored in Menara CitiBank

After working frantically in that building up to 11PM last night, my mind was really shot. And then the doo-doo hits the fan this morning due to some unmentionable incidents. Anyway, for the rest of the day, it was disaster recovery and 90% was not our fault. Ok, I was bored as heck here as well.

A "special" spicy friend rice and 7-Up Ice, all for RM6.00 at 5th Floor because that is what's left that is humanly edible after 2PM.

Coming back to the toilet, this is what it looks like on the other side of the wall

There's a hooker in the toilet!!! Heh.

Here is this familiar chap, who walks around in his socks and gloves, as seen on TV.

Something's not right as he is a bit flat today. But still, isn't he friendly? You can trust him too

Until you realise he is an illegal as well............

Bored in Sungei Wang

There is one thing I can tell about the shops in Sungei Wang. They do not open until its way past after 11AM. Before that, its just quiet. Dead quiet.

Within an hour, all of a sudden, you can see a lot of activities as all the Ah Bengs and Ah Lians and innocent Tourists start to crawl out of the concrete blocks.........

OK, I was bored waiting for my customer to open since I came way to early.
Heh. But its not my fault since I have a schedule to keep

Some camera crew were waiting at a corner to prepare to shoot some stuff.....

"Hey! Its my medal and I own it!" Han Solo was sculpted to look more like a greedy, senile old man.

A very nice figure doing a flying stance. Not so nice if its real life and she is about to land on you

No, its not a steamy shot but the glass was full of finger prints by other busybodies.
Beauticians having classes too. That is new.

A shot taken from a lift. Yes, I was really bored

A very beautiful scene. Pity I can't get the shot on her face.

Dead Cat

Today was a very hot day, and even with the wind, its still hot. On my way back to my car, I saw this dead cat, which was very dry. There was no smell but it was so flat, some of the skin has hold which you can see the bones through

I saw this dead cat on the sidewalk. Its internals were all gone. More like kena steamrolled

And I am sure, it used to be a cute kitty cat

Awesome dinner

2 SparklingFruit Juice
1 F&N Zappel
1 Bowl of Yee Mee
1 Big humongous Steamed Fish
1 Plate of La-la, cooked "yin-yeong" style
1 Steamed Chicken
and
The Whole Family

And in another 12 months or so, there will be another one!

Bittorrent & The Pirates

Here in Malaysia, we have a serious dilemma. Supposing your take home pay is RM1700. After paying for all the bills and necessary stuff like food, you'd be lucky if you still have RM400 to last for the next 29 days. So, while you're walking about, there is this latest Lord of the Rings DVD which costs RM89.90 which you have missed when it hit the cinema rounds because you did not have the money to fork out a RM20 ticket for both yourself and your wife. You'd be thinking, "If I start to skip lunch and breakfast...........". And then a few days later, sadly, your outdated Windows 98SE went kaput (and you cannot find the serial numbers and CD) and the price of a new Windows XP Professional would cost you a gut-wrenching RM900 or so. Without your PC, you cannot do anything productive nor help your career. Ouch. So, what would you do? In fact, what would anyone do?

This is what you can do:
1) Borrow money (Loansharks start to thrive)
2) Use your credit card (and you sink in to a deeper debt)
3) Pay for them by installments (good luck in your begging at the shops)
4) Borrow the stuff from your friends (This is highly illegal in some countries now)
5) Go visit Uncle Ho in any Pasar Malam (Night market) and try not to get shot (when you do not have the Internet and a CD burner)
6) Go download them from the Internet

Most people would have chosen Option #5 or #6. At times, when you're trying to download a popular or free software, you would encounter things like their server being busy, etc. This means, a lot of other people in the World are also downloading the same file. And you have to wait in line. Then came Peer-to-peer dowloading where you can search and download files from another PC. But its still very slow.

Now, came the Bittorrent revolution. This open source program works very differently because this protocol allows for a lot of other PCs to download the same file without slowing the process down. And those who are downloading, can upload their part of the file to other PCs who do not have this segment. This keeps going on until every PC has the exact copy of the same file. Hence the name torrent because when a new file is created, a lot of people would download it and the speed would first trickle and then speeds up into a torrent. In other words, this means, the more people download that file, the faster the transfer rate.

You can see how a Bittorrent file transfer works on this simulation here.

The circles with the "rainbow" in them are the seeders ("S") who has the whole file while you and I are the leechers ("+") who want download those files. Try with a one to one first and then once you understand, press "+" a few times and you'd be amazed. After all that has settle, put two or more "+" and see the speed.

Unfortunately, when I mentioned "files" they can mean anything from free software to cracked games to copied DVDs to recorded TV shows to scanned comics to MP3 to other files which irks those Copyright Fat Cats. That is why in the begining, P2P sites like Napster were closed (and then opened but with a lot of "challenges"), followed by other bittorrent sites like suprnova.org and others.

Copyrights have always been the problem ever since the cassette tapes came out. Then came with the Betamax and VHS (and their format wars), now CDs and DVDs which made Joe Public like you and me easier to copy the contents.

Bittorrent allows me to enjoy some TV shows which would never be shown here in Malaysia (if they do, it would take years and also censored) unless they're very popular, such as American Idol. It also allows me to read some old and out of production comics which a lot of comic collectors would never take it out to show. I would like to get them legally but the people holding the copyright material would never release or reprint it, citing a lot of reasons such as costs, collector's value, etc. Even if they did, the cost would be too expensive over here in Malaysia. I mean, buying a DVD which costs 10-15% of your salary?

Good or bad? Bittorrent is a tool and its up to the user. As a consumer, I am not bothered by all this ever since Madonna started with her anti-piracy campaign. I mean what the heck. I was buying CDs at an average of 3 per month, even if it costs me. By sticking to the original, all I got was:

1) Lousy return experience ranging from:
a) Missing receipt (OK, I did not intentionally lost it, and the shop knows its their CD)
b) Fault in the manufacturing process, "Sorry no more stock. Wait for a while la."
c) Sour faces

2) BAD quality CDs which scratches even if you try to wipe with a clean cloth

3) Artists scolding/blaming us for piracy when I was staying with originals. In the end, this pisses me off and this also say a lot about their image.

On the other side of the coin, the pirates here are different, not because the things they do but in their customer service, which a lot of shops lack unless you're buying CDs by the lorry load:

1) No quibble one to one exchange, all with a smile
2) Most of them know their stuff and would tell you which title is good or bad
3) Also, they will know your preferences after a few visits and would tell you which is a good DVD9 copy and from which "brand". This is a very good thing because it keeps the customer coming back for more as there are other unscrupulous pirates who aims are one-shot-selling.
4) Most popular words, "Buy it now, if you can't view/listen to it, come back and I'll exchange another one for you."

So, ever since Madonna and other shit Artists diverted from their creative jobs, I have stopped buying ANY original CDs to this day. Not because its expensive but because of their bad current anti-piracy image, which kills of any mood for listening to them. I am not buying a CD which has only one song out of 17 or so. For you see, although Joe Public is the one who is paying your salaries and supporting you, Joe Public does not like to be scolded out of the blue and Joe Public likes their products cheap, and in the fastest available time, regardless of the source. So, thanks to all these, Joe Public is now turning towards the other way. You Fat Cats have only yourselves to blame. Not the MP3 downloads, not the Bittorrent, not the file sharing but your inability to get off your butt to do something about it and win back Joe Public.

It would be nice to have the originals at cheaper prices and something special to counter those pirates instead of the normal "Imported" sticker crap to boost their prices. If this were to work, you would be able to buy the Microsoft XP Pro at a reasonable price which reflects your salary and not at American US dollars. I know this this topic (to combat piracy) has been discussed locally but the Fat Cats are keeping quite about it because this means less profits for them. I do not think they know much about the repeating customers concept which the pirates have so successfully cultivated for the past decade.

At the end of the day, you can clearly see who wins in the long run.

New Toys III

Ok, its not Toys but toy since my paycheck is still not out yet. So, this evening, my Wife and I decided to go shopping for more baby supplies at 1-Utama. This is the second time in weeks we got to go out by ourselves whithout Kristine crying. But we were rushing with the shopping as Kristine needs to be fed soon as she has reverted back to the 2-hour interval feed. So, I thinks its more of speed-shopping.

While she was doing her shopping, I wandered off to the Toys section and came across Hotwheels's latest products:

The Acceleracers are already on the shelves, costing RM9.90, 5 ringgit more from the normal Howheels.

Here are some accessory for the Acceleracers

This is what I got for RM9.90. Beautiful, eh?

Its the latest ThunderCycle series and this one has two front gigantic wheels.
It either looks more like a steamroller or the half-front of the Dodge Tomahawk

Another shot from the top. Looks like a 1/53 scale, which I can modify the rider from some Tamiya model kit. Pity I used a 400ISO setting. Must be getting sleepy.....

Today is Saturday

And I am supposed to work half-day, no thanks to the same moron who was pulling the cable. We made him promise to complete it by yesterday and he promised us that it would be finished by 5 in the evening. Tough luck because not only did he not keep to the schedule, he was late by one day.

So, this morning he had to start again and the customer was not pleased since the office was not opened on Saturdays. In the end, it was completed slightly after 2:15 with lots of embarassing door opening incidents and I had to rush back because my Wife told me that there is no one to buy lunch since my Dad has gone out with her car to fix the air-con. My Wife threatened to drive my Dad's Volvo 240, which set me into panic mode because a lot of people could get killed even before the car could clock an extra kilometer.

That is the problem with local contractors. They can promise you the whole sky but when it comes to the crunch, its a diferent thing. Worst is, because of their thick-skin (or stupidity) and greediness with other simultaneous projects, the customer is the one who loses most.

On the way down to monitor him at the basement, I discovered the reliability of a Proton reverse sensor

There he is, and unfortunately, all the cars missed knocking into the both of them

Hmmm......... the night mode is not really that effective here.

Here in the MDF room, he is completing the last leg of his job, by soldering the connector.

"I give up!" Well, nearly because he could not find the signal and thought its faulty

I love the T630's silent mode when taking pictures because no one noticed me doing it.

Phone Camera Danger

Well, after fiddling around with my Sony Ericsson T630 at a customer's toilet, I began to realise why a lot of people would prefer not to have camera phones around.....

(Sample photos after discovering that the T630 CAN take photos without the "shutter" sound)

This guy is a perfect Gentleman because he actually lifted the toilet seat up

This is the shot from the cubicle on the right

PIcture026
This is the shot from the cubicle on the left

Horrors of Horrors! My cubicle door is actually warped, and outside people can see me....

Sigh. I can't switch over customer's PBX because this moron was one day behind his schedule. When I was there, he had started on the ISDN cabling on the floor and has yet to complete the other end at the Basement........

Stupid Van Driver

First of all, let me tell you about a very special van. Its small, and is usually used by small traders to carry various goods. Because of its high torque, it can accelerate very fast when there is nothing to carry inside. Also, the van is constructed in such a way that the driver's seat is after the front wheels. And it has an amazing turning radius. If you're not used to sitting in the front when it is turning and squeezing at tight corners............. heh.

But best of all, it comes in various shades of white, from bird-shit to urban dust to decade-worn white because no one bothered to clean it. Maybe you can tell how old it is by the layers of dust stuck to it.

Here is a sample of one those vans.........

So, when you have an impatient and reckless driver (or a racing fanatic) behind one of these, you'd know what to expect.

Take for example, this morning. At about 9AM, I was near the Jalan Kepong/Jinjang exit. There was this white van speeding out from a T-Junction, and you can see that it nearly hit those orange divider, which looked more like torpedoes (I know, I know, lets not be so phalusophical). Anyway, this scared the heck out of the Kelisa driver in front of me, which, by natural reflex/panic, he did an emergency brake. As I was following the 2-second rule, I stopped about 2 feet away, no thanks to some rubble on the road.

Crime scene revisited. The incident took place just near where the Pajero is. The van in question was on the right of the dividers

And this is how it looked like when I took this at night. Ha ha ha ha

We continued our way, and I decided to peek to my right, who this stupid van driver was, and at the same time, signaled I wanted to go into his lane. And that was it, he either thought I was challenging him to a race or he got insulted that an ugly fat guy looked at him.

So, thus began the moronic race. He kept driving very close to me, for whatever psychological reason, I do not know. There are two train of thought to this, and neither of them met half-way:

1) He thinks that by "pushing" me, I would speed up and he can then go faster, and he can tell his passenger, "See? I am more powderfool and oh so macho!!"

2) He thinks that its funny to "scare" me like that

Suffice to say, I succumbed to his tactics and forced an Emergency Brake on him instead, with the obvious result. Not satisfied, he began chasing me again.

While he was chasing me, I did not speed up but continued at normal pace. This time, he got even closer behind me and started to communicate in Morse Code with his head lights. So, once again, I pulled another Emergency Brake, this time with a slightly longer braking delay (which is also riskier), which resulted in his tyres squealing.

So, we're now at a three lane stretch and with a lorry in the middle, he tries to cut in front of me. Even with my raped car (I'll tell you in another story), I can still prevent him from cutting in. Yes, there is another bad side to the van's performance, which is, speed. It has the torque to rocket launch the van but not enough to sustain it. And the noise of the engine. My God, it sounded as if it was being tortured. You'd know that sound, a high pitched "Whhoooooaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrhhhhh". If it the van was alive, someone would have put it out of its misery by shooting the driver.

And I can see steam coming out from his ears. Again, he is behind me and just about 30 metres in front, would be where I am to exit. However, there are already some cars queueing at the lights and luckily for me, there was a gap at the outermost (read:Most right) lane which I quickly switched to. The driver was not too fast and had to contend with horning me from a distance and continued his way.

And throughout the whole morning, my hands were shaking, no thanks to the adrenalin which has not cleared the system. You'd think I was high on caffeine.

Kristine's Smile II

You know, after a long tiring day, its nice to come back home. I was surprised when my Wife told me that Kristine was not in a good mood until I came home. She was slightly grumpy the whole day and did not smile until she saw me. From there on, her mood changed for the better. Does this means she misses me?

Anyway, congratulations to Mike, whose Wife gave birth to a healthy girl as well. I will have more details when he dares to show up work today.................... ha ha ha.

What's this? An outdoor toilet to be completed?

Nope, its a Bus Stand in Sri Hartamas where the bus does not stop. Ha ha ha
Or was it a Taxi stand?

And I've just installed another system last night, finishing at 9PM. Will switch over from the old PBX tonight......

You know, using my Ericsson's T630 camera in quiet mode, I took a picture of a very sexy Receptionist but its not nice to upload here. Heh

Another late night

Well, its another late night with the customer again, this time to "clean up" all the loose cabling in the PABX room. And I worked from 5 in the evening to 1040 at night. And because the central air-conditioning goes off in the evening, I was literally sweating. This was bad because:

1) I was soaked with sweat all over my body
2) My sweating hands/arms keep knocking between the Newtwork server cabinet and the PABX's chassis.

This results in mild electrical shocks. And because of the tight space, I was stuck between the two electronic devils which gave a bigger shock when I touched both of them together. So, during the whole night, I invented a lot of new swear words averaged at about two a minute.

Nice car

A closer look at the VW for sale poster

I know what to expect when I come out after the job tonight

I saw this mess outside Jalan TAR. No, it was not me.

There are so many cables above the ceiling here, I have problems using the trunking
