20250511 Daiso @IOI Mall, Puchong does Scale Models

It's been ages since my last visit to Daiso and to be honest, there is nothing much for me there, apart from the usual neodymium magnets and those cute cotton buds with pointed tips. Long ago, going to DAISO means discovering new things and exciting adventures ling ahead. At that time, the price was just RM5.00 per item which you'd have no issue grabbing stuff left, right and centre (until you start paying at the Counter and came off at least RM1xx poorer). There are so many cute torch lights, keychains, notebooks, etc. Even if you had one in your house, the ones in Daiso is a must have.

Years later, I really have to find an excuse to go there. Their prices have risen to RM5.90 for basic items and as far as I know, it is still on cash terms. I could be wrong on this part but after the Pandemic, the idea of using (possibly contaminated) paper/ plastic notes can be quite repulsive.

Oh, the adventure part? That's when you discover that not all Outlets have the specific items you need. And this is where you start to plan your next Journey or Family Shopping trips for the next nearest Daiso and hope they have what you're looking for.

I have known Daiso to cater for the normal Family items and never for the Scale Model genre. The last I've heard was more than a decade ago when they have transparent boxes for mini collectable figures. This time, this time it was different. I have heard bits of news that they have some items for the 1/12 Figures and for Mechas. The closest Daiso for me was at Puchong's IOI Mall...

And there it is, hogging nearly one part of the shelving.

Display Base

1/12 Scafolding

1/12 Handguns and Knives

1/12 Cutlery (Those dishes can be a source for Radomes)

1/150 Soldiers

There are other stuff on that shelf but I only took the relevant photos. In the end, I managed to get (not) all of them. Sadly, I had to leave since the rest of the Family are ready to go. So, maybe one day, and not too soon, I hope to be back.

The one with the new eyebrows

By now, you would be wondering, where is the post about the Bird Park? Heh.

To cut a long story short, its a hot day.
And someone wants to have her eyebrows done.
In Kepong.
Behind my office.

Anway, I don't mind because it has been talked about for months and this is the perfect time to go. And for me, its also the perfect time to run a few errands too. So, we car-pooled to save petrol, of course. After dropping them off, I did my errands.

Unfortuntely, the comics shop was closed.
I found out later that it was not closed. I
went there too early as they now open at
3 or 4 in the afternoons on Mondays and
Tuesdays. This is the fourth time I forgot.
And the Nokia 5800 is not so hot in this shot

The "battle-damaged" NX-01 going for RM656.00

What do you mean they had to poke your skin?
Its more like a tatoo already! You' better take
care tonight, see if there is any fever or not. I
cannot show you picture of the eyebrows as I do
not want to die prematurely. The sketch above
should give you a rough idea........

Some stuff I got for myself with the remaining salary.
A set of Faber-Castell colour pencils that can turn to
water (RM24) colour, a brush and 165gsm paper. Oh,
this time, I got the Al Pacino figure. The total came to
Rm35, which is a bargain as I think I saved RM8.00

This was the last one and they were kind enough to
take him out of the display (because the one I wanted
was sold). There are two versions, with the other one
being on a sitting position. This was taken from a die-
cast car used by Al Pacino in the movie Scarface.

In a Lucky Gardens bookshop, I came across this
rectangular pencil again. It was sold in Daiso (not
the exact model) For RM5.00. Here, it was being
sold for RM3.00 including the RM1.00 for 6 leads.
I did not buy from Daiso because I could not find
the refills. So, not everything at Daiso is a bargain.

For Jawi writng and musical notes

Very very weird. When I have the time, I will
test it out.

The Ice Balls

OK, by now, I am pretty sure the ice has formed. In fact, I am very confident that it was ready since yesterday. But today was the only time I was free. I mean, yes, I could just crack it open and then pour some water/Ribena/100plus/Coke/Pepsi/Kickapoo/Root Beet/F&N Grape/Coffee/Tea/Alphabet soup/.etc but I want this to be a bit different.

And yes, you can win a lot of snowball fights but you only have three shots.

And after thinking about it, I could have just make the ice balls with concentrated Ribena, water and pineapple chunks. Then, I would take them out and place it in a cup of 100 plus. As it slowly melts, it will slowly redden the 100plus and the pineapple bits might represent chopped up body parts. Yes, ues, its not even Halloween yet. But the Ribena/water is a good idea already.

And so, taking it out of the fridge, I noticed one
of the side had popped open. This means that
the ice is expanding after the water has leaked

And whoa! Ice Balls!

Yes, its quite big and what drink shall I used it with?

Amarula. Why not? The bottle's still
full after all these years and you
can come an join me anytime, K?

Oh no, no, no. Kaelynn cannot
have a sip after what happened
with the Shandy the last time.

Going back to Daiso

Today, I had to go back to that customer of mine whose shop is in the final stages of renovation. And the contractors there are working like crazy as they have less than days to hand over to the customer. I had to come because two days ago, no one was working (really hard). And today, I am glad I came because they had pulled two cables less. So, I had to get them to rectify the mistake.

Although we are not under the Main-con(tractor), and we're not laying the cables, I still have to perform a site inspection in case there are complications.

This is where we'll be installing the phone
system. Right now, the CCTV guy is getting
the best places and mains power.

I have never seen a cloth type of
wall paper with glitter as it looks
glamorous. Very glamorous.

Close up shot of the fabric. But most of the
glitter that was glued on, came off and made
the floor/carpet look weird instead.

On the way out, there was this roadshow about
driving safety by the Fire & Rescue Department
to educate folks who are going to balik kampung

Yeah, they even have their own band.

Before I go back, I was unable to resist the urge to stop at Daiso again. I realise I am starting to get addicted to that shop. And with RM5.00 per item, its getting to be quite expensive. I mean, there are so many nice and useful things in there and by the time you check out, you realise the con. Its so easy to pick the items and buy the time you realise it, you could have paid more than RM50.00 for stuff which might be cheaper or that you do not really want but thought you might need it.

And so, (L-R) I had a nice tap penguin, a tube
paste roller, two sets of hand massage balls

One is the nicket plated and the other is just plain
transparent blue. Yes, it is painful to massage your
hands. But I was thinking of more uses for the
metallised version. However, I still could not get
the two halves to open......

I like this because when you stick it to the tap and
trun on the water, the small fins inside would make
the penguin flap its wings. Unfortunately, the taps
in the house were too big for it. Hai......

Ice Cube Balls

OK, its time to test the ice ball tray. Its very simple and I am shaking with excitement.

Step 1: Take out the trays, wash it an then fill it up with water

Step 2: Take the upper half (the one with holes at the top) and gently cover the bottom tray until you feel the lock. Do not press the cover is a fast manner or the water will squirt out.

Step 3: Wait for the ice to form lor.

Daiso @ IOI Mall New Wing

While I was doing a site inspection for my customer today, I happen to come across this shop. Yeah, the RM5.00 shops are starting to grow again in the Klang Valley. But this was the biggest RM5.00 I have ever seen. Compared to the other shops, this Daiso is like a Hypermarket.

Anyway, since its a new place, I decided to take a look-see. Because "Everything imported from Japan" I wanted to see the weird stuff and boy, there ARE some weird stuff in there.

OK, situated next to ACE Hardware, do not be confused
even though both entrances are painted in red. This one
does not have bored looking Security Guards.

Aisles and aisles of product for you to choose

Weird item #1:

Weird item #2

Weird item #3

I also came across some display cases

Which is ideal for 1/35 scale miniature figures

You can have one with the slight sloping on the sides

There are three different cases for you to choose from
but since its not airtight and all, you cannot use it to
display your prized possession after your Bobbitt
incident. Nor can you use it to make an ant farm.

Me? I bought a spherical ice cube maker
so I can say I have balls of ice. Heh
