Ever since I cleaned the model kit from the termite's gunk last weekend, my mind was occupied with the idea of building the kit. Yeah, its a dangerous thought because I could get killed (by Wifey)
But then again, what have I got to lose? The Limited Edition kit was already in shambles, the decals were eaten and so were its instructions and box. So, its pretty useless as a kit since there are no parts for kitbashing too.
After scouring the Net for various reference to the studio and BGI model, the kit I have is quite ok, after I made some modifications (If I want to). It has the size compared to the smaller but ultra accurate Bandai version. There was a story behind this but I am not quite sure if its true or not. Seems that when the Star Trek Merchadise License is up for grabs, a few model companies wanted it. ERTL no longer had the license (they make OK kits but were so inaccurate and after every movie, the model was repakaged but with not much inprovement). So, Monogram decided to showcase their expertise with the Limited Edition USS Voyager which is great. That is, until Bandai. famous for its innovative Gundam kits, came out with the USS Enterprise 1701A, the Enterprise-E and of course, the USS Voyager which blew everyone away. Unfortunately, the latest licensee went to Polar Lights which came out with an almost 1metre USS Enterprise 1701A which of course, the Star Trek modelling World once again, went mad. Because if they did the USS Enterprise-D on the same scale, the model would be about 6 feet long.
After spending many nights thinking about it, I think I am going to light it up but also at the same time, modify the model into a "What if" scenario (Like this one or these ones). I mean, wouldn't you get bored look at the same perfect and slightly more acurate model day after day? Ha ha ha ha ha.
Yeah, if I am lucky, it might get finished sometime before I retire.

If all the models were scaled at 1/350 scale...
And if you got the ERTL Enterprise 1701A and need anal accurizing
