Cheaper RON95?

Come this end month, there would be some big changes to the Country in terms of Fuel Pricing under the Budi Madani RON95 (aka BUDI95) subsidy scheme. On the 30th September of 2025, we could be paying RM1.99 per litre while non-Citizens would be paying at RM2.60 per litre instead. The only conditions for this to happen would be that you need to present your MyKAD at the counter or at the pump prior to the re-filling and hope that you did not reach your individual monthly quota of 300 Litres.

So, please make sure your MyKAD chips are functional. I do have a MyKAD reader somewhere but after our Move, it's hard to find it back.

What does this all mean?

You can talk all about the Politics or the Conspiracies behind, or how PMX is to you for all I care. Those does not bring food to the table. To me, a reduction of 6 sen per litre means a lot. For a person who travels at least 100Km a day and needs to refill every four days, this is a huge difference. Then again, I am not that person anymore as my daily commute for the moment is never more than 21Km.

Let's do some calculations

Looking at the image below, my average fuel consumption is about 11.96 Km/L. (The number 11.95 was a mistake because the formula did not take into account of empty cells.)

With RM50, at the current RM2.05/L, I would have 24.39 litres in the tank and it would give me an average of 300Km. 4 years ago, I would reach the 450Km mark consistently but then again, I was using the Highway and on a 85Km, 3 hour commute. So, with the RM1.99/L, and for the same mount of RM50, I would have a total of 25.13L in the tank. Therefore, if my average fuel consumption is 11.96 Km/L, I would get an additional 8.79Km! Which is a lot and my refueling interval could be a tad longer.

The bad news is, if you're a non-Citizen or your MyKad is faulty or, the readers are on the blink, that's RM2.60 per litre for you. And coming back to my car's calculation, I would have lost close to 62Km for each re-fuel or 5 Litres, depending on which numbers you dislike to see.

I know it's silly to some but I had the bad habit of recording my car's mileage for no reason. And after that, the data is either lost (2020-2022) or jumbled.
